AISI 4140 chromium-molybdenum alloy steel provides balanced fatigue, impact, and abrasion resistance. We machine and qualify stock across annealed, pre-hardened, and quenched & tempered states.

Integrated 4140 Machining, Heat Treatment & Grinding

Machining alloy steel requires high static rigidity, vibration damping, and tightly sequenced thermal controls to prevent residual stress distortion in critical load-bearing assemblies.

Phase 1

Roughing & Semi-Finishing

High-torque milling and turning remove outer scale and core bulk with controlled chip loads on annealed or pre-hardened 4140 stock. Equalized material allowance is left for thermal release.

Phase 2

Controlled Heat Treatment

Controlled quenching and tempering (Q&T) or stress relief cycles adjust internal core structure to specified tensile and hardness levels (28–38+ HRC) prior to finish machining.

Phase 3

Hard Milling & Precision Grinding

Multi-axis finishing on Mazak C600 centers and OD/ID cylindrical grinding on Okamoto machines deliver final tolerances to ±0.003 mm and surface roughness down to Ra 0.4 μm.
